Meeting the Rainbow

The rainbow is a promise. When we see one, we experience the promise of connection between Earth and Spirit. We experience Earth Magic, or the magic of Color and Spirit, as it only occurs on this watery jewel of a planet we call HOME.

Every child's heart resonates with the rainbow. As adults, we often lose the ability to experience the mystery and the magic of Earth and Spirit come together in our lives. We need reminders. One such reminder for me was the work of the German poet and scientist Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe and his statement,"Color arises out of the meeting of Light and Darkness within the atmosphere of the Earth." Since studying his work and others inspired by him, I have come to think of Color as the Soul of the Earth Mother.

This understanding of color has significantly impacted my artistic process. Instead of working with a model of dissected color, I was reconnected with the rainbow -- with its mystery, oneness, magic and movement.

The Birth of Color

The Rainbow is a metaphor of life’s own creative process. It embodies the story of our journey through consciousness, and it holds a key to our inner rainbow of soul energy, our light body and chakras.

The rainbow is the journey and marks the meetings of the two primordial forces, the Light and the Darkness or the Void. The Dark Void, like a great womb, fills every corner of the Universe. Infinite potential arises from this source. At the moment Light touches the Darkness, a single aspect of that vast potential is selected to BE born. It comes to exist. Each color is born out of a singular meeting of Light and Darkness and represents a very particular joining of these magnificent forces. That joining determines the individuality and unique consciousness of that color.

The creative process has taught me to be aware of these forces and the interplay of their creative powers within my soul. In paying attention to them, I have learned to shed assumptions and theories that exist outside of me, and I have become free to reach within myself to discover my soul’s way of knowing.

Primordial Darkness

In order to know the nature of Darkness, I meet it with my soul. With kinesthetic awareness, I feel its impulse to fill, to hold, to contain. It pervades all space not held by light. It gathers all things within itself, secreting all that it holds. Brimming with potential, Darkness embraces all impulses of yet un-formed creation. She warms and nurtures all that she enfolds in her intimate embrace. Her loving touch has no perceptible edges. It is a softness, so close, yet often unnoticed; rather, it is mistaken for shadow, a totally other vibration. The Mother Darkness, the womb of all of Life, is the container that holds the inner and outer Universe as it comes into being. In her, all possibility awaits the moment of its birth brought with the touch of Light

Primordial Light

When my soul seeks within itself the nature of the Light, it discovers the Light of Consciousness. Consciousness reveals itself as a radiant force that streams out from a central point in a straight sword-like movement. This is light’s nature: It delineates, focuses, and individuates the diversity found within the Darkness. As the Light radiates, it encounters the infinite potential held within the Darkness. It illuminates a singular creation, birthing it in the present moment. Light creates the moment we call NOW.

Our Multi-level Rainbow Journey towards Unity Consciousness

This is the story of the evolution of consciousness and color as it lives in my soul. Our Rainbow journey started many epochs ago. Each of us began our journey enfolded within the warm nurturing embrace of the Great Dark Void. The Light was on its radiant journey outward from its Source when it touched us. The Light sparked the beginning of consciousness within each of us. We are touched by it not once, but again and again. Each time it creates another energy center within us, and we continue along a path of evolving consciousness. With Light’s first touch, we begin our journey, our rainbow path. The magnetic pull of the Light draws us through the Darkness. Each of us on a Rainbow journey manifests our own unique expression of Divine Diversity, Unconditional Love and Consciousness.

Stepping into the Rainbow

Magenta
In that first moment, when we first feel Light's touch reaching us in the Dark Void, we are brought into being. At that beginning point in our journey, Magenta guides and nurtures us. It contains the birthing energy of the Dreamtime consciousness. Magenta springs to life in the furthest reach of Darkness with only the mildest touch of Light. Magenta, being mostly Darkness, is imbued with the power of her gifts. In our aura, Magenta is the color of the small chakras in our feet and our hands. It lends our limbs the power to move in all directions and the presence to fill the space around us, a quality gifted from the Mother Darkness. Magenta governs our dreamtime conscious; it is full of creativity and untapped potential and birthing power.

Red
The Radiant Light draws us from our dreamy embrace within Magenta. It pulls us along radiant lines of consciousness into the influence of Red. In response to the increased penetration of the Light, the Darkness harnesses together its power and forms a strong center of Red. Red pulsates like the heart pumping blood out from this strong center. It is powerful, assertive, staunch, righteous, vibrantly alive and able to defend life. Red is the energy potential of the Darkness given the wings of Light. In the Red frequency, we are grounded to the Earth in physical form with heightened awareness towards the preciousness of life. We value, honor, protect and hold life sacred. We bond with the Earth and receive from Her all we need to sustain Life. Red lives within our aura, in our root chakra, where it supports our ability to defend and sustain our life.

Orange
From Red, the Light pulls us into the color Orange, the energy of balance. When the radiance of Light and density of the Dark Void meet in equal measure, Orange is born. It displays its balanced nature, as it both appears to pull towards the center and radiate out from its center.

Orange consciousness contains a sense of community, the quality of holding all together, yet fulfilling each particular member. This is well symbolized by the orange, which is held together by the peel on the outside; yet when peeled, the orange is in sections ready to be shared. This balance of giving out and holding in gives Orange the strength and healing that are its essence. In Orange, we have a sense of connection with our wholeness, with ways of sharing and healing, and with our sexual energy. Orange is the creative dynamic at the root of flourishing family life; it holds the balance between male and female, community and participant, species and ecosystem. We have integrated this Orange consciousness into our being. Orange lives in our second chakra, our sexual energy center. We have lived its lessons as individual souls and as members of the human race. When we trace our past lives, our archetypal memories, our tribal lives and the archaeological objects we left behind as messages to ourselves from an earlier time, we find Orange consciousness written, inscribed, and recorded, in our souls, in our aura, and in the historic remains of Earth Herself.

Yellow
The Light pulls us onward, out of the balance and security of Orange and into the powerful, assertive, and brilliant radiance of Yellow. Yellow consciousness is the power of the abstract mind and the chakra of the solar plexus. Through the power of Yellow, our consciousness travels along its rays of light into the far reaches of the Universe and back- all in less than a second. We can think of any place and any dimension in the Universe. We can move our mind with a miraculous immediacy from being grounded in matter and experiential life into the realm of abstract thought. This "mind" power draws its energy from our solar plexus, the seat of Yellow in our Soul Body. Yellow consciousness powers the penetrating analytical power of the intellect.

Opening the Heart

Emerald Green
From this seat of Yellow, we are drawn through the shattering anxiety of Yellow-green. Drawn farther still, we enter the very center of the spectrum and into a place of radiant blue-green. Artists call the hue Viridian, the Blue-green that flashes before the eye at sunrise or sunset when the least veil of darkness intercepts the eye and the sun. That Blue-green is the heart chakra color.

The Divine Light draws us into this Emerald heart chakra consciousness. Here we are transformed. This place of peace is the experience of Divine Oneness and Unconditional Love, the source and center of the Light itself. Here our heart and mind merge with Divine Oneness, Consciousness. We open to our scared heart, discovering our Source, the Beloved Oneness, and we are transfused with Divine Love and Light. We become the Love that we are as the Light fills our heart. The Light reveals the Love in our heart.

Blue
As we move out from this center place, we carry the Divine Light and Love with us. Blue consciousness arises as the Love-Light shines through our heart and embraces the nurturing Darkness. Blue creates a safe soul container in which any shadow impediments remaining in us soften and integrate within this loving embrace of Light and Darkness. We find our authenticity in Blue consciousness - our own individual center within the Universe. With Divine Love-Light radiating through our heart, we awaken to reality that we co-create with Spirit. Blue is the energy that creates and sustains soul space.

The birth of Blue consciousness brought the ability to perceive and imagine space, to think of the world as round, and to conceive of three-dimensional rather than linear travel. Blue created the inner space to conceive and hold thoughts that differ from the community of thought in which we were raised or conditioned. Blue gives us the space for our own individual thought process and perspective. In Blue, we experience our own truth and unique gift. Blue is the vehicle through which the Universe gives to itself the rich diversity of our unique, individual expressions. With the consciousness of Blue, we are able to follow our own soul paths and fulfill our unique contract with the Universe, the reason for which we came into being. This is the gift of Blue.

The capacities to conceive of soul space and to pursue and appreciate diversity gave birth to the Renaissance, the time in history when blue first became physically visible to human perception. It presents us with the wonders of individual genius and discovery, and it also gives us the struggle with the forces that would hold back individuality from its spiritual purpose; thus, it reveals the wondrous strength we gain from such struggle.

Blue is the color of the throat chakra, the place of speaking our soul truth and singing our spirit song. In Blue, we feel the power of the Love -- Light of Divine Consciousness within us, sustaining us, shining into the Darkness. We are able to shed Light on the shadows or fears – the illusions that hinder us- that create our need for dominance or victim hood, which cause all inequality, including racism, greed, war, rape, incest, and abuse. On this path, we penetrate our shadows and integrate them into our being. We assume the task of transforming our fear into spiritual energy, wisdom, and unconditional love for ourselves and every expression of Divine creativity.

Indigo
This integration process brings us into the color Indigo. Through the power of Indigo consciousness, we awaken our "third eye" that penetrates the shadow within. Indigo sees beyond the veils into the Dance of the Light and Darkness, integrating all realms of vision. It brings the gifts of clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and awakens the twelve senses.

Violet and Beyond

Beyond Indigo we reach the place of violet, the crown chakra. It is the place where the power of Light and the spirit of Darkness become one within us. As Light and Darkness become interwoven, they create the unity of the God-I-Am-Consciousness and reveal the twelve chakras above the crown chakra that connect us with the other dimensions. When, as a human family, we reach this consciousness, we will see the twelve colors of the etheric spectrum, which we do not yet see on the physical plane, because, for now, they remain behind the veil.

This is the rainbow story that lives in my heart. It is the story of our individual and collective journeys across a vast powerful and transformative mystery—the rainbow. The rainbow is a bridge that spans the intangible and the tangible. It lights the way between these dimensions. The two primordial forces, Light and Darkness, meet in a particular way to create each color. Each color weaves across the rainbow bridge providing guidance for a chakra, an epoch of evolution, a quality of soul consciousness, and a creative capacity. The vibration of these Great Angels of Color brings Earth into being out of Heaven. They hold the key to Heaven on Earth, the "pot of Gold" at the end of the Rainbow.
